Motion in one dimension

1.What is speed?
   Speed is the quantity of how fast something is moving.

2. A runner completes a 200m race in 25 sec. What is her average speed?
    Average speed = distance / time
                         = 200 / 25
                         = 8 m/s

3. A red car travels 400m in 20 sec. A blue car travels 660m in 30 sec. Which car has    the greater average speed?
    Red = 400 / 20
           = 20 m/s

   Blue = 660 / 30
            = 22 m/s
   So, the blue car has greater average speed

4. An airplane accelerates down a runway at 3.20 m/s^2 for 32.8 s until is finally lifts off the ground. Determine the distance traveled before takeoff.
Answer: d = 1720 m

5. A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly over a time of 5.21 seconds for a distance of 110 m. Determine the acceleration of the car.

Answer: a = 8.10 m/s^2
